Determinism you can check by hand

Enter the same recipe twice and you get the identical panel, down to the pixel, because every value runs through the same fixed rules. You can spot-check any line yourself: 62 computed calories must print as 60, 0.4 g of saturated fat must print as 0 g, and 148 mg of sodium must print as 150 mg. If a generator can't tell you why a number rounded the way it did, you can't defend the label when a co-packer or buyer asks. Panelry's output traces back to a specific rule every time.

Built on the current Daily Values, not the old table

The 2016 label overhaul changed the reference amounts behind every %DV: sodium moved from 2,400 to 2,300 mg, dietary fiber from 25 to 28 g, vitamin D and potassium became mandatory, and vitamins A and C dropped off the required list. Templates and older tools that still divide by the pre-2016 values produce percentages that are quietly wrong on every line. Panelry computes against the current table only, so a %DV mismatch is one failure mode you never have to audit for.

Where exact math ends and a lab begins

A deterministic generator is only as good as its inputs. USDA data models ingredients accurately for baked goods, snacks, confections, and sauces, but deep frying (variable oil uptake) and fermentation change composition in ways no database entry captures. And if your package makes a nutrient content claim, a $500–1,000 lab analysis is cheap insurance, since the FDA verifies claims by testing the food, not by reading your spreadsheet.

Common questions

Does the generator use AI?
No. It's a deterministic renderer that encodes the FDA's documented rounding and formatting rules, so the same recipe always produces the same compliant panel.
Which formats does it support?
The standard vertical panel plus tabular, linear, and dual-column (per-serving/per-container) formats, all generated from the same recipe. Switching format never changes the underlying numbers.
Can I add nutrients not in the USDA data?
Yes. Add a custom ingredient and enter per-100g values from your spec sheet. Panelry rolls them into the panel.
How accurate is it?
The rounding and Daily Value logic is unit-tested against FDA example labels. Still, you are responsible for verifying the final label before printing.
When is a dual-column label required?
When a package holds 200–300% of the reference serving amount (RACC) and could plausibly be eaten in one sitting, 21 CFR 101.9(b)(12) calls for a dual-column panel showing per-serving and per-container values. Panelry generates that layout from the same recipe data.
What order do the nutrients have to appear in?
21 CFR 101.9(c) fixes the sequence: calories, total fat, saturated and trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, total carbohydrate with fiber and sugars (including Added Sugars) indented beneath it, protein, then vitamin D, calcium, iron, and potassium. The renderer emits this order automatically; a reordered panel is a common reason buyers bounce a label.
Do sugar alcohols show up on the panel?
Declaring sugar alcohols is voluntary unless you make a claim about them ('sugar free', 'no sugar added'), in which case the line becomes mandatory. When declared, they appear indented under Total Carbohydrate with their own gram amount and no %DV.
