FAQ

Questions, answered

Is Panelry FDA-approved?
No. Panelry is an independent tool and is not affiliated with the FDA or USDA. It follows the published FDA format (21 CFR 101.9), but you should always verify a label against current regulations before printing or selling. It is not legal advice.
Do I even need a Nutrition Facts panel?
Many cottage-food makers are exempt. You only need an ingredient, allergen, net-weight, and home-kitchen label (that's our free tier). Under 21 CFR 101.9(j)(1) a maker selling direct to consumers stays exempt up to $50,000 in food sales (or $500,000 overall). What ends it is a nutrient claim like “sugar free,” or outgrowing those thresholds. Shipping across state lines puts you under FDA rules but doesn't by itself end the exemption, though retail and wholesale buyers usually want a panel anyway. See our FDA label requirements guide. When you hit that point, a $9 Label Pass has you covered.
Where does the nutrition data come from?
USDA FoodData Central, the federal government's free, public-domain database of 380,000+ foods. It's the same authoritative source used across the industry, at no cost.
What if my ingredient isn't in the database?
Add it as a custom ingredient by typing the per-100g values from your supplier's spec sheet. It's saved to your account and reusable across recipes.
Is the free tier really free?
Yes. Unlimited cottage-food labels (ingredients, allergens, net weight, and your state's disclosure) with PNG/PDF export. Free exports include a small footer credit you can remove with Pro.
How is the $9 Label Pass different from Pro?
The $9 Label Pass unlocks and exports one finalized Nutrition Facts panel, perfect for a single product, with free edits and re-exports for 7 days. Pro ($12/mo or $99/yr) is unlimited panels and saved recipes for ongoing, multi-product businesses. Cancel anytime.
